What to Expect: Taos Snowshoeing Day Tour

A Soulful Winter Adventure in Taos’ Backcountry

Experience the quiet magic of Taos in winter, where sunlight filters through snow-laden pines, the air is crisp with possibility, and every step feels like floating on light. Whether you’re a seasoned skier seeking a new adventure or a first-time snow explorer, our guided snowshoeing tour offers an approachable and deeply rejuvenating way to experience the serene landscapes of Northern New Mexico.

Your day begins at El Monte Sagrado Resort in Taos, where you’ll meet your expert Heritage Inspirations guide, your facilitator, educator, and storyteller for the day. After introductions and a gear fitting (we provide everything you need, including snowshoes and poles), you’ll caravan together on a scenic 20-minute drive up U.S. Hill to Amole Canyon in the Carson National Forest.

This pristine old-growth ponderosa forest, designated exclusively for snowshoeing, offers a peaceful retreat into nature’s stillness. Our trails are tailored for all levels, blending gentle ascents and wide meadows with views of Picuris Peak and the surrounding backcountry.

Before setting out, your guide will demonstrate how to use your snowshoes, adjust your poles, and move with ease on snow. Soon, you’ll find your rhythm—your steps light, your breath steady, as you glide quietly through the winter forest, discovering the simple joy of snowshoeing: a feeling of “flotation,” as if walking atop the clouds of snow.

Following your Taos Snowshoeing adventure, you’ll pause for a gourmet tailgate picnic, thoughtfully prepared and elegantly set with folding chairs, blankets, and warm beverages. Savor your meal amid the stillness of the mountains, a moment to relax and soak in the peaceful solitude that defines Taos’ winter landscape.

This experience is designed to be as seamless as it is soulful. Our guides ensure your comfort, safety, and enjoyment throughout the day, making snowshoeing an effortless and rewarding experience for everyone.
