What to Expect: Taos E-Bike Tour

We have long wanted to show Taos from the unique vantage point of a pedal-assist bike, and it’s happening! We invite you to cruise beyond the Plaza and experience the scenic backroads at a gentle, immersive pace that lets you soak in the rich beauty, culture, and history all around you.

Embark on a journey through time as we unveil the vibrant history, art, and characters that make Taos unlike any other place. Our pedal-assist e-bike tour is an educational and fun adventure that offers a local’s perspective on the hidden gems of this enchanting town. Nestled at the base of the Sangre de Cristo Mountains, Taos has long been a haven for artists, visionaries, and free spirits. Known as an artist colony for over a century, it has drawn creatives from around the world to capture its people, landscapes, and light. But the art of Taos  runs even deeper—members of Taos Pueblo have been crafting works of beauty here for over 1,000 years, making it one of the oldest continuously inhabited communities in the United States.

Powered by motor, you’ll effortlessly navigate the scenic backroads and historic streets that define Taos. Our first stop is the historic Mabel Dodge Luhan House, where we’ll soak in the peaceful ambiance and glimpse into her legendary artistic salon at the edge of Taos Pueblo land. Next, we’ll visit the breathtaking home of Russian artist Nicolai Fechin, where his hand-carved wood and metalwork turn architecture into art. From here, we’ll pedal through the pastoral beauty of Taos to see the Martinez Hacienda, a Spanish Colonial "Great House" that offers a window into rugged frontier life. We’ll continue through scenic acequia-lined roads, stopping to meet a local artist and mayordoma who will share the history and importance of these traditional irrigation systems.

Our journey continues to the iconic San Francisco de Asis Church, whose massive adobe walls have inspired artists like Ansel Adams and Georgia O’Keeffe. Often considered one of the most depicted churches in the country, its timeless beauty embodies the spirit of Taos.

Our tour wouldn’t be complete without a tasty treat, so we’ll stop at the Taos Cow, a local artisan ice cream shop that specializes in New Mexican ingredients and flavors. We return to the historic Plaza on the Old Santa Fe Trail, once the only route that connected Taos to the outside world. With a heart full of stories and a newfound appreciation for this remarkable town, you’ll leave ready to explore even more of Taos’s magic.

A Note on Our E-Bikes

Our fat-tire e-bikes are intentionally built for stability and comfort on Taos’ varied terrain. Because they include a motor, battery and wider tires, they are heavier than a traditional bicycle. Once you’re riding, the pedal assist makes them feel light and effortless — but at low speeds, while mounting, dismounting or pausing at stops, you may notice the additional weight.

Your guide will demonstrate safe techniques for handling, steadying and getting on and off the bikes before we begin. Many of our guests are new to e-biking, so you will be well supported as you acclimate.

We recommend closed-toe, supportive footwear and attentiveness when stopping and stabilizing the bike. With just a little awareness, most guests feel confident within minutes and quickly ease into the joy and freedom of exploring Taos on two wheels.
