Taos Alpine Hiking Adventure

While the hike takes place in the Alpine forest at a high elevation, the grade of the trail is forgiving and we will set a comfortable pace making it appropriate for different levels of hikers. This hike provides spectacular views looking west towards Taos Ski Valley and out over the Taos Plateau towards the Rio Grande Gorge. As you climb higher into the alpine forest, the views expand and one becomes more and more drawn in by the mountains. The mind is soothed and the soul is nourished by the fresh clean mountain air, leaving you with a feeling of release and renewed vitality.

The monument includes approximately 242,555 acres of public land, most of which is managed by the  Bureau of Land Management. The landscape is comprised of rugged, wide open plains at an average elevation of 7,000 feet, dotted by volcanic cones, and cut by steep canyons with rivers tucked away in their depths. The Río Grande carves an 800 foot deep gorge through layers of volcanic basalt flows and ash. Among the volcanic cones in the Monument, Ute Mountain is the highest, reaching to 10,093 feet.
