Blake Hotel and check-in to your room for the night. You will enjoy a farm to table lunch at the Blake Hotel to prepare you for our first hike in the gorgeous ski valley. In the afternoon we will hike the Via Ferrata climbing course in the Taos Ski Valley situated at 11,500 feet in the subalpine ecosystem of Kachina Peak. Breath deep as you inhale the fresh pure mountain air and enjoy stunning views of the Rio Hondo and Wheeler Peak Wilderness.

Following the hike we return to the hotel for some down time and journaling. You will be treated to a delicious organic dinner prepared by loving chefs. After dinner we have our opening ceremony, sharing circle, and meditation to round out our first day of the retreat.

You begin your second day with an hour-long yoga and mediation session led by Kari and Donna. Refreshed and grounded you will enjoy a delicious breakfast to prepare you for the hike up to our Glamping Camp. After a short hike into the wilderness of the ski valley, you will arrive at our roving glamping camp, your home for the next two days. You will settle-in to your tents and soak in the gorgeous remote mountain scenery, while our chefs prepare a delicious farm to table lunch right at our glamping camp.

In the afternoon you will participate in a nature ceremony and Native American Invocation. Inspired by these ceremonies, together we will explore the concepts of self-compassion and mindfulness. After these nurturing workshops you will have some free time to hike, journal, or just enjoy your surroundings. You will be treated to a nutritious farm to table dinner and then we will process the day’s events through a sharing circle underneath the expansive New Mexico skies free from light pollution.

Start off the day with an hour-long yoga and mediation session led by Kari and Donna. Then fuel up with an organic breakfast at our glamping site before we hike to Williams Lake. This hike takes place in the alpine forest at a high elevation but, the grade of the trail is forgiving and we will set a comfortable pace. This hike provides spectacular views looking west towards Taos Ski Valley and out over the Taos Plateau towards the Rio Grande Gorge. As you climb higher into the alpine forest, the views expand and one becomes more and more drawn in by the mountains. The mind is soothed and the soul is nourished by the fresh clean mountain air, leaving you with a feeling of release and renewed vitality. We will enjoy a delicious picnic lunch overlooking Williams Lake.

When we return from our hike, you will have some downtime to rest, journal, and enjoy your surroundings before our sharing circle. Dinner will be a farm to table feast at our glamping site. As the sun sets we do a full moon ceremony with healing mediations and sound yoga.

Start the day off with an hour-long yoga and meditation practice followed by a nutritious breakfast. Then we will do a final threshold crossing ceremony to round out the self exploration that we experienced in this retreat. Then we will hike together back to the Blake Hotel, where we say our farewells and send you off with a lunch to go.

Jennifer is the Director of Nursing at Vista Taos Renewal Center, a uniquely holistic inpatient addiction treatment center in Taos, New Mexico. Here, she implements gold standard, evidence-based detox protocols as well as brain wash out periods, where appropriate, from psychotropic medications, enabling patients to grasp onto tools to change their lives without medications after the detox period. She provides medical treatment and forensic evidence collection in cases of rape and domestic violence.

Jennifer’s own personal healing through IFS therapy, yoga and other holistic approaches has helped her to develop key tools that are at the core of the addiction treatment program at Vista Taos, such as mindfulness, breathwork and gratitude practices. Her deep love of food as medicine and nutritional training, helps to guide a more healthy self-care practice and the overall cultivation of a heart-centered way of life. This approach helps patients be able to visualize their wholeness and strengths and begin to move out of their addicted patterns over time as they move back into their lives and complete trauma therapy and whatever helps them on their healing path forward.

Jennifer is an energy healer and empath and uses these tools to facilitate her patients’ healing. She has training in Shamanic healing and herbology, bringing deeper holistic tools to help her patients heal from body-based traumas. Jennifer believes and teaches her clients that healing starts with learning to be happy and healthy in our bodies through connection with the earth and themselves in nature.

Beginning in 2021 she will begin offering Wilderness Transformation retreats! These are retreats designed to help clients move through fear and blockages so that they can truly live their best lives now! She believes in the innate ability of each and every one of us to heal this planet and ourselves. The key is willingness– are you ready?

Kari Malen, RYT 500, is a self-described forever student of yoga. Her favorite lesson – to live more mindfully and present on and off the mat. Helping students find freedom in their bodies and minds, Kari came to teach because of the misconceptions about yoga and wants to make the practice available to all body types, experience levels, and nay-sayers.

Her teaching style is a blend of Iyengar, Anusara, Vinyasa Flow, and Myofascial Release with a splash of philosophy, a pinch of anatomy, and a whole lot of self-love. Kari teaches yoga in and around Taos, NM as well as on-line.
