Do you have the fly-fishing bug and continually dream of casting your line across a watery expanse in an isolated high mountain desert setting? Do you want to feel like you’re the only one on the water? Well, New Mexico has some excellent fly-fishing opportunities that can deliver a top quality, yet remote, fishing expedition!

This tour is for you if you wish to commune with our glorious natural settings while trying to catch a variety of either warm or cold-water fish species.

You’ll start off either being picked up at your hotel or meeting up at Taos’ Solitary Angler Fly Headquarters. Then, you’ll head out to pristine waters, public or private, which includes destinations like the Red River, the Rio Grande and Culebra Creek. Van Beacham, owner of the Solitary Angler as well as a fourth generation New Mexico native who was born and raised fishing these parts says, “some of the best fly-fishing is on private property. In recent years, a lot of these fisheries have been protected, developed and opened to the public for a fee.” Thus, making for lots of advantages and special opportunities, as well as great secluded fishing.

Fortunately, New Mexico’s weather allows for year-round fishing as long as you’re flexible with your river location. Allow Van and his expert guides to provide some advice and input to the best location for the time period. And of course, they’ll also be happy to provide insight into the best fly choices depending on the river and the time of year.

A full day’s fishing equates to 6 to 8 hours, while a half-day package will end before lunch. The full-day includes a freshly prepared lunch by your guide – hopefully freshly caught that morning! Flies, tippet and terminal tackle are included whereas fishing rod, waders, license and private water fees are extra.

You’ll feel lucky to have a choice in watery destinations, a wide variety of fish and a year-round climate that provides something for every type of angler to enjoy. So, get your New Mexico fishing license in hand and get ready to be impressed with our magnificent, isolated terrain and top-class fishing.
